Fernando Pessoa was a Portuguese writer and poet best known for his unique use of heteronyms—distinct literary personalities with their own biographies, philosophies, and writing styles.

These heteronyms were more than just pen names; they were fully realized characters that Pessoa created to explore different aspects of human experience and emotion. Through Soares, Pessoa conveys a sense of quiet disquiet, offering a contemplative and often melancholic take on the human condition.
